Neurorehabilitation Services

Hunters Moor offer a number of clinical programmes. Read more about these below and download a referral form to refer a client for treatment.

Residential Treatment

Most of our work is within our two units in Hall Green.  The Olive Carter Unit is the 10 bed neurobehavioural centre which is in the same grounds as the Janet Barnes Unit.  This is our 35 bed Neurorehabilitation facility.  Most of our clients will be with us for some months in both these facilities.  We have no specific time limit for the rehabilitation programme which purely depends upon continuing progress being made as well as appropriate funding provision.  We anticipate most people in the Olive Carter Unit will stay with us for about six months or so.  This is also the average length of stay in the Janet Barnes Unit.  However our Goal Setting Rehabilitation Plans will ensure that individuals are only with us whilst they are still making objective and measurable progress.

Respite

We also accept clients for respite breaks.  However we prefer to accept clients who, in addition for respite for the family, require a rehabilitation assessment and thus can make some progress in the units during their respite stay. Our facilities are not specifically geared for purely social respite.  However, for example, we would be very happy to take someone after a spinal injury who needs a further period of reassessment and perhaps needs a treatment plan for management of their spasticity or continence problems.  We would be happy to take someone with multiple sclerosis, for example, who needs a physiotherapy review.  We anticipate most people for a respite break will be with us for one or two weeks although we are entirely flexible on the length of stay.

Day Unit

Some of our clients will be able to go home and then return to either the Janet Barnes or Olive Carter Unit on a daily basis.  As long as the journey is not too tiring then this is obviously acceptable and we will continue the rehabilitation programme in the day unit.

"Outpatient" Programme

For a few of our specific programmes it may be possible for people to attend on an "outpatient" basis.  Also, funding allowing, we would like to follow-up most of our clients once they have left the units to see how they are doing and to suggest further rehabilitation suggestions.  Thus we will run a small "outpatient"service to support those clients in the long term.

Community Programme

It makes a great deal of clinical sense if the same team including someone from the residential treatment unit can follow an individual out into the community and continue their rehabilitation in their home or in their work place.  We are also happy to provide Case Management for appropriate clients.

Medical Legal Assessments

Professor Barnes and senior colleagues have considerable medical legal experience and we are happy to admit people for medical legal assessments and provide reports for the Court.  Reports can also be commissioned on an out-client basis and we are normally very happy to visit people in their own home.  Clients with medical legal/insurance funding for periods of rehabilitation are also very welcome in either the Olive Carter or Janet Barnes Unit.
